Some of those signals are VERY similar to cats then. I just never hooked it together. I think I get fooled by dog’s mouth-breathing appearing like happy smiles. Gulping I can read as well as the “white of the eyes” and the obvious ones. I knew “dry mouth” stress in cats were stress indicators (licking lips, gulping, head down a little and looking suspiciously), but I guess dogs are similar. I wonder if these are common mammalian traits? hm.

Over time I’ve been trying to shift my thinking from, “Oh look, that animal is behaving like people!” into realizing, “No, the animals did it first and it’s WE who have their traits”.

[like when a dog is jealous or something. It was a dog trait first. :) ]
