Some kind of “theory of kinds”… mechanistic property clusters, which could correspond to Applied Domain… but with perhaps more flexibility than the Principles of the Domain would give, as a cluster of properties can work together.
An example is: using a sharp knife tip as a phillips head screwdriver. IT’s not a cross shape but it’s got a tip that fits. It’s not a rounded tool but flat or wedge. It’s usually steel like a phillip’s head screwdriver is. So any individual property might not be enough for it to be useful as a screwdriver but in practice which is a combination of principles working in concert even partially (systemically) may be enough.
It’s affordances ultimately. The flexibility away from principles is needed but the principles are also helpful as a base.
