A most bizarre tune - Theme from the Munst...HUH?

This is about the funniest song I've written to date!

::: tooting own horn :::

Beethoven, Bach, and the dude that wrote the theme to The Munsters would have
a fit if they saw what I did to their songs!

If I were Catholic, I'd probably head out to the confessional right now for
the amusing mangle that I've done!

Salt Of My Tears." It was (and here in New Orleans, still is) a fine jazz
tune, featuring nice key changes and subtle harmonies. It was recorded by
Paul Whiteman in 1927 and had a fine cornet solo by Bix Beiderbecke. The
vocalist on the recording was a young man named Bing Crosby.

The tune of this popular song of the Spanish-American War was originally a
band tune written years earlier for the famous McIntyre and Heath Minstrels
by their bandmaster, Theodore Metz. The words were added later by Joe Hayden,
a singer in the minstrel troupe. One of many stories attributes his
inspiration to the posters announcing the coming of the minstrel show to ld
Town, Louisiana.

If this song sounds a little like "Easter Parade," there's a good reason.
Written in 1916, it was virtually forgotten until Berlin needed a catchy
melody for "Easter Parade," which was being incorporated into a 1933 musical
called "As Thousands Cheer." The author, remembering this little ditty from
17 years earlier, borrowed liberally from the main chorus and came up with
what would become one of America's best loved holiday songs. But "Smile And
Show Your Dimple" was the forgotten inspiration!

Palmer, a young actor and occasional writer of songs, paused one morning to
listen to a German band playing on the street outside his house. Summoned to
breakfast by his sister Pauline, he answered, "One moment; let the band play
on." To both of them the words immediately suggested a title for a song, and
forthwith Palmer wrote the music and lyrics for the story of Casey and the
Strawberry Blonde. Unable to sell the song, he put it aside. Years later
Charles Ward heard it, recognized its possibilities, and bought it from
Palmer. He made a few changes, published it with his name as composer, and
within a few years, thanks to his tireless efforts, the song became
successful. It sold more than a million copies.

"Give My Regards To Broadway" and "The Yankee Doodle Boy." The show opened at
the Liberty Theatre in New York on Novemer 7, 1904. Cohan wrote the book, the
lyrics, and the music for the show and was the star singer, actor, dancer,
and stage manager as well. The show closed after only two months, but Cohan
took it on the road, brought it back to New York in 1905, and established it
as a definite hit.

The Bowery in the '90s was the center of the fast life of New York. Here the
shapers and the fakers carried on their trade among sight-seers and naive
pleasure sekers. This account of a rustic's experience there on his first
visit to New York was sung in Charlie Hoyt's musical satire, A Trip To
Chinatown, and became the hit song of the show. It was so popular that real
estate values along the Bowery dropped, we are told, and there were vehement
protests from the furious shopkeepers along the street.

Von Tilzer, who for a time had been a partner in the Shapiro and Bernstein

four years he had brought out seven major hits. Among these were four of his
most famous songs, one of them "Down Where The Wurzburger Flows." It was
written for a musical show, "The Wild Rose," but never got into the
production. However, it became one of the favorite "drinking songs" of the
turn of the century.
