Very true about the dogs. Then again, same could be said for following wandering flocks of sheep and a strong case can be made for plants doing genetic engineering on humans.

But we’re nothing. We’re just the hosts for bacteria. They’re really in control of us and we speak their collective thoughts. Ever get that empty feeling after taking antibiotics?

Well, now you know why.
Thing is, the dichotomy between Belief and Reason is a false one.
Reason requires belief to function. It’s basic cogsci. Yet we still persist in the myth that there’s a difference somehow. Abstractions.

Abstractions are not illusions. They’re describing real things. Just… poorly.

Well, I’m not taking side in this because there’s not really a fight. Two different languages are being spoken, each from different sets of assumptions, worldviews… seeming to speak the same language but not.

Evidence is easy. When it becomes “You’re stupid” “Go away” “Read a book” “You come from a long line of idiots and I expect no less than that from someone of your lineage”…

..it’s gone into Kindergarten mode. Not disrespecting Kindergarteners mind you. Even most of *them* share. Just a few fight over he said/she said stuff over a toy neither one owns.

BW: If you’re replying to me then you’re subjecting your reply to my imposed context. That’s communication

KU: That’s very well said. I like that.
Still, it’s a self-imposed context. Communication also includes the capacity of broadening context. Built-into the system as it were.

I’m being in earnest by the way. I deal in dry wit sometimes, but rarely sarcasm. Sarcasm is a waste of energy. ‘saying the opposite of what you really mean’ to me, is the realm of mean girls.

Well sometimes I go into msg, usually I keep most discussions public (because I enjoy the cacophany of opinions; for me it sharpens my own thinking and brings me greater clarity of my own opinions of things; perhaps a new topic here on the subject.

Of course, if it’s personal, PM is always appropriate.

Brandon Wann Very true. It can shift the origin however.
For example, I like to do a kind of “Set Shifting” (changing of context) over to analogies as an origin. It’s my bias; sociohistoricallinguistic with a peppering of cogsci to make me sound like I have a clue when necessary.
