So now autism is a by-word for anybody who raises an issue. At one time, you had to be rocking back and forth and spinning plates.

Yeah. They’re personality differences that there wasn’t a spot for i society. Now there is a spot for it and it’s in the medical field. I don’t like that they broadened autism in the early 90s and made it a spectrum because it inadvertently minimizes the problems of people with severe autism (which used to be just “autism”) because the borderline “is it autism (medical) or introversion (personality)?” don’t seem severe in the eyes of many in a jaded public.

I have aspie friends who swear I’m one. Maybe I am. I dunno. Might be ADHD. Definitely anxiety but I learned ongoing coping mechanisms for that when I was a kid. [biofeedback, self-hypnosis, stuff like that]. Would’ve been nice to get more help? yeah. But not medically unless I felt it was getting in my way of self-control, which I didn’t.
