So.. I see behavior (what you do) and performance (what you willfully show) as distinct from essence (who you are).
So: doing can be automated repetition or choice
What you willfully show can be choice or semi-automatic.
and they both line up with and are also distinct from who you are.
But also, your behavior and performance are also who you are : from the perspective of other people for that may be all they can see or choose to see.
So is this essence a soul? I don’t know of it’s spiritual but it’s active. These are logical distinctions in that they make sense to me. You can strip away automated behaviors. You can strip away willful show (acting, performing). But as you are more than behavior and performance, something has to be left.
