Self-selected group. It’s likely you’d hang around (off or online) with people who are more similar to yourself than different.
A neighbor’s kid liked to torture cats to death. I learned young that wasn’t “me”. I was all “dude wtf that was YOU?” and felt sick. He laughed.
I know that’s not what you’re talking about but it’s related.
Ok. Consider PTSD. Why do trained soldiers get PTSD?
Oh there’s been studies. They want effective soldiers and not have to pay for post-combat treatment.
But humans aren’t designed to kill. It’s abnormal. It has to be “trained out” and that’s not always effective.
Yeah. Same with cops. Doctors are trained to see themselves as a little god-like so they can do awful things to people during surgery and be able to sleep soundly at night.
It’s all in the training but training isn’t always enough.
I think one of the things that makes horror movies popular is the chance to empathize with a psychopath, to see the world through their eyes.
Could I be like that? Could I do those things? Can I imagine myself being the bad guy? What would it take for me to go there?
So for morbid curiousity? That’s normal.
Is he though? He used an online registry indescriminately, not knowing the situations.
Was it a 20 yr old boyfriend and 15 yr old girlfriend?
Was it drunk guy peeing within 1000 ft of a school?
Was it a serial abducting TV movie pedo?
