I’m aware. We don’t even fix our own. We lie to 4th graders every year that “Abraham Lincoln defeated slavery”. Well, the worst of it? Absolutely. No question about it. Vast improvement. HOWEVER: “except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted”. 13th Amendment. A law enabling Slavery, not eliminating. Pennies on the dollar. Are they citizens of the USA? They are. But they can’t vote? Why not? People with mental problems or developmental difficulties have their rights taken away regularly. How easily one can get “power of attorney” over another such as to be able to make medical decisions for them easily that deprive them of liberty. Picking battles. How much power does a SINGLE GOVERNMENT have over world trade practices? We have some. We use that power. It hurts other countries. So we do it when we disagree with another politically. We could also do it if we disagree with their human rights practices. And it’s not that we shouldn’t do that. It’s indirect; direct would be to forbid American distributers from being allowed to import goods created by slavery or slavery-like conditions/material, create a robust system checking imports at the border. etc. Or ban imports. Not impossible of course. But for a country built and continuing to built upon slavery and slavery-like situations with a significant part of the population more than happy to embrace a futuristic style of the same, it’s not an easy task.
