Scott Aaronson It just seems like it would be.
my only real exposure with David Deutsche is when he was a member of an online mailing list i made and ran in the early to mid 1990s on children’s rights called Y-RIGHTS.
I had a rule – it seems absurd in retrospect – to try to keep your writing level at around an eighth grade level so as not to exclude anybody who was on the list.
oddly it worked except for two people : David Deutsch and the woman who founded TCS – Taking Children Seriously. They worked together on it for a few years — i assumed they were good friends too.
Anyway, they were talking high level libertarian stuff in a group that ranged from middle schoolers to professors and UNICEF and yet they would not listen to me. This was around 1993
i was infringing on their rights i think?
So i showed them where they could start up their own list – which was harder back then — no www yet — and once they got set up, i removed them from Y-RIGHTS as i said i would.
We stayed amicable. i joined their list too and it was ok.
a few years later David Deutsch wrote a book and i was proud of the guy.
i didn’t mind that they wanted to do things their way but i knew there was room for them to do so elsewhere and set them up to. i thought i was reasonable but i was like 21 yrs old so who knows.
