Science and religion; accuracy and fable

The presumption is that science and religion are opposites.
That is not necessarily so.  They both try to predict the future; one through fable and the other through the mathematics which are more precise and we can build things with (engineering).  We can also theorize, which is science.  Theories are not required to build things.  Just knowledge of building.  Scientific explanations are typically after the fact, although at times they can also predict, which is one of the greatest features of the sciences over prophecy: Their accuracy.
