*Safe Foods.* Weight. #Anorexia #anorexic #weight

I had a passing thought: If I wanted to lose weight, who is the most successful at keeping their weight off? Well, I’ve learned if you look to the _extremes_ and then *come back* to _where you are_, you can get some ideas that will help you. So, I thought, what are some ”Safe Foods” that people who are Anorexic currently eat? Well, Public Forums often are places where people come together, so I did a Google search. I hope this helps someone out there who is trying to lose weight, or even someone suffering from anorexia who needs ideas on more things they can eat that might be ok:

mine include dannon light n fit vanilla yogurt (lowest calorie yummy yogurt ive found)

diet cherry 7up

minute maid lite cherry limeaid – RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. NOT GROSS AT ALL, only 5 calories!!!!tastes like juice!

coffee with lots of sugar for some energy.

salad with vinegary low cal dressing and lime juice

i would like a list of yummy low cal food that i can stock up on.

what are your faves??

The teeny tiny apples

Diet Coke

Plain or salted rice cakes

I’ll probably think of more later but that’s it for now.

i love pickles too!!! but im afraid to eat them because my husband heard somewhere that eating them makes you…*smell* …..down there… lol.

so now im petrified to eat them or let him see me eat them for fear that he wont go there! and i desperately dont want that hahaha

i know its probly soooo not true but i have this weird obsession with always smelling good and clean (on my whole body, not just my lady parts!)

im going to google this now…i wonder if its true…

so i just googled it and i got mixed reviews. a lot of people dont have issues with pickles, but apparently broccoli, onions, asparagus, fish and curry all make you smell and taste bad. and pineapple makes you smell really sweet! this goes for guys too. pineapple makes it taste better for up to 12 hours….good to know! also, i read that it is commonly agreed that vegetarians smell and taste the best. interesting

(hopefully this wasnt tmi or too innappropriate! i tried to use nice language lol)

I like that you split them into two groups though, I think that’s how many of us feels about a lot of food. Also, Im mightily intrigued by this flavoured coffee! I looked for that once but the one I saw had a lot of added calories, is it a specific brand or was I just unlucky?

glasstheme. Look in the regular coffee section. They have regular coffee and gourmet coffee (dunkin donuts, starbucks, caribou cafe, etc). They have different flavors such as hazelnut, vanilla, pumpkin spice, etc. I find them at walmart, target, kroger where the coffee beans and coffee bean grinder is located in the store. Ya know, the one that you can select the coffee bean you want and grind it right then and there so it is fresh?

This is an example

Lately, most days, I have a mandatory combination of tea, raw fruit, and raw or steamed vegetables. I’m planning to incorporate fermented ones too!

Some of those days, I add roasted vegetables without oil like beets or squash, a single soft boiled egg, or a serving of plain greek yogurt.

When I’m really feeling crazy or in need of leptin to keep burning weight, I add some small thing that has fat in it, like a few really small potatoes with butter or smoked salmon or something.

I have 3 categories, too. This is a list for the current season. It is different in the summer. I know some of the stuff doesn’t make sense why they are in a certain category. More a mental thing for me probably.

My super safe foods/beverages (my current diet):

coffee with a little cream or milk (if I have the cream, I take fat absorbing pills with it)

tea with milk

celery

nonfat kefir

raw sauerkraut (homemade)

beet kvass (lacto-fermented beet beverage, homemade)

pure amino acids (protein) in powder or pills, so no extra calories

other pills and liquids to get nutrients (vitamins, minerals, etc) with least amt of cals

Medium safe:

carrots

whole milk kefir (with my fat absorbing pills)

green leafy veggies

frozen green beans

tomato soup (homemade)

Semi safe, rarest, more to maintain on than lose, or when I’m really hungry:

beef marrow bone broth (homemade, with as much fat removed as I can manage)

super lean lamb

tuna packed in water, no salt

leanest buffalo/bison meat

fresh white fish (lower fat varieties)

kohlrabi

turnips

parsnips

=-strong Tea with milk and splenda (mainly Irish breakfast, English breakfast, Assam or chai)

=-coffee with same as above

=-sugar-free energy drinks

=-sugar-free candies

-some regular (not sugar-free) candies, so long as they’re fat-free

=-low-fat tofu

-fat-free/sugar-free yoghurt… sometimes. If it’s not in the individual serving things, it’s a binge food though.

=-sugar-free Carnation Instant breakfast

=-grapefruit

=-clementines

=-Celery

-salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato) with lots of ground pepper and no dressing (or sometimes a little fat-free Italian dressing)

-egg whites (hard-boiled, scrambled, whatever). When I was attempting recovery, I used to eat the yolks as well; I found hard-boiled eggs to be quite manageable because they seemed small and compact.

-Campbell’s ‘Healthy Request’ Tomato Garden Vegetable soup

-vegetable broth, as long as it’s not too salty.

=-sugar-free freezies

-some alcohol (wine, beer, vodka mainly), as long as it’s not part of a mixed drink containing anything fatty.

-fruit smoothies… sometimes, though I need to know the nutritional information and won’t drink too much.

There are probably some others that I’m forgetting at the moment. I’ve noticed that as time goes by, my ”safe foods” list gets shorter and shorter… when I first developed an ED (age 14, I’m 25 now), pretty much anything that wasn’t horribly fattening was okay in small quantities. Once my anorexia turned into bulimia (with a few episodes of just BED), the list of foods I could eat without being triggered to binge got a lot smaller. Bleh.

I absolute favorite go-to vegetable is spaghetti squash. This poor baby is so overlooked, but a single cup cooked (155g) is 44 calories. Seriously good stuff. It’s super filling too, and you can play it up with things. If I want faux pasta, I’ll have it with some salsa or tomato paste, or if I want something sweet, a bit of sprinkled splenda on it is super yummy. I absolutely reccommend spaghetti squash to everyone.

Other favorite go-to safe foods are

yoplait source yoghurt

crispy minis rice cakes (i love the cheddar ones, with 12 for 90 cals)

miso soup

orville 100 cal bags of smart pop popcorn

radishes

tuna (can or fresh)

nestea packs (5 cals)

cheese strings (I like to add a half of one to my chicken noodle soup)

campbles light chicken noodle and light vegetable soups (130 cals for the whole can)

teas (I love all kinds. Especially peppermint, and lemon green tea)

i found these little cans of salmon for 80cal, and it tastes a LOT better then canned tuna imo. i’ll plop a can onto bagged salad with lemon juice and salt. i’ve also been getting a lot of campbell’s soups lately – they’re easy to take to work, and range from 70 – 120cal each! super filling and tasty, but i’ve noticed that soup in general gives me the runs and i’m not really sure why…

I don’t buy the flavored coffee beans but there are sugar-free syrup flavorings that are fantastic. I use them in my coffee but also in water, and they make great Popsicles too when frozen in water. They are all 0 cal too! I am suorized I don’t see anyone else on here using them…

My friend bought some a month or so ago, I’m pretty sure they were 0cal too. They were at WalMart… I should grab some the next time I’m there.
