This is very Freemason symbolic too. Part of me always found them intriguing: a lot of their beliefs suit me quite well for this reason. This is the Rough Ashlar, Perfect Ashlar: it’s simultaneous, both a goal and a work in progress and a haven’t started yet. Heidegger comes to mind as well.
I did a brief research after seeing your post and as I had in the past, briefly considered applying. In so many ways it reminds me of Scouting, an organization that was very influential to me, but as before I concluded the Freemason organization is “not my thing”. But that being said, I like many of their ideas in principle. Recognition of the fundamental imperfection of self and the ongoing striving towards betterment is a good thing, no matter where it comes from.
