Yup. I even apologize to the plaque I brush off my teeth ’cause they’re far off cousins – like the in-laws that show up for a holiday and stay the whole weekend.


Religious folks have appropriated the phrase, “attitude of gratitude” for themselves, but I use it myself. I don’t exactly apologize to the plague but, oddly, I respect our far off cousins. It’s not guilt just acknowledgement.

Sometimes I think of the process it takes to get food to the table before I eat. Sometimes I forget. I’m a humanist at heart, although not entirely strictly so.
