Recently, LibraryThing started offering free membership, allowing now for unlimited books. [it’s a way to put together your own personal library]. I jumped in, determined to catalog EVERY BOOK I ever read in my life. I’ll have it all by Dewey Decimal too, which is a system I know well. I marked books I remember reading or recognize, used to own or picked up once. Going through John Holt, I am REALLY surprised I’d read all of these but I had, so long ago. I was about 13/14 years old and my public library in my tiny town had a LOT of John Holt books as well as Summerhill. Couldn’t get enough. Such an eye opener that there was alternatives possible to public schools. It convinced me to push to get into a tiny private school where I could direct my education better, which I did and I’m glad for. What’s odd is that I can’t remember much of anything John Holt said. I guess it just became a part of how I think.
