Rap is superior.
The complexity of language is on Full display in even the simplest of raps
Any device you’ve seen in Shakespeare you’ll see in rap on a regular basis
The use of slant Rhymes particularly can get clever
It makes use of the vocal cords as instrumentation while also stress and destress and Rhythm while also weaving layers of inferences and implications and cultural wordplay, often honed through street play as kids in ad hoc competitions outside of traditional schooling.
Metal has its place and I have a fondness for it because it’s from the 80s and what I grew up with around me
But right from the start I knew that rap was superior even while I fought my own cultural bias against it. I was supposed to say things like “rap is crap” and sarcastically use the fruity pebbles rap style as a white man simple rhyme rap if I tried at all and do it poorly – the worse I did the more white cred I got from fellow pink skins.
But I’m weird and didn’t.
Mind you prog rock and technical metal kicks ass and my ears are in a treat with yes keyboard solos and precise dualing guitars and yes I can even appreciate a well constructed aaba metal done with flair or pseudo anger.
But rap is objectively “more”. I concur.
