Funny thing about semantics — I used the term for YEARS before really understanding it. (and I don’t know if I fully ‘get it’ even now). There’s the phrase, “Oh, that’s just semantics” – and it took me a lot of years before I stopped and thought, “Oh, what does “semantic” REALLY mean?” and when I dove in, I saw that it’s a lot wider than I ever could have expected. I also like heuristics – “trial and error” / “shortcuts” – “black box” – then if you delve into the semantics of the heuristics, you REALLY can end up in some strange places, especially if you’re applying them to the study of people’s group behaviors. (racism, for example, or cliques, or any ISM really) “
