i know this because i’ve gotten into many ill social situations being earnest but exhibiting the behavior of someone who wasn’t – and people, once burned, are rightfully skeptical when they see similar signs again, warrrenting caution or “strike first just in case” maneuvers. Sucks but there’s a lot of dishonest folk out there who use what kind people do for nefarious means
