Promoting is tricky probably.
In 2013-14 I wanted to get over at least one hump of publishing to figure out the fastest possible way to publish a book. I didn’t want my heart crushed, so I put one one thing quickly I’d sat on for a year, then several other things that I threw together over various weekends all with a single goal:
It wasn’t to make money or fame.
It was to do everything I could UP TO but NOT INCLUDING the promotion part of self-publishing.
It took away all my excuses and left behind the one thing I didn’t want to do.
That took a lot of the technical pressure off. It’s very super easy to self publish online, hardly much different than putting up a blog – perhaps easier still.
So, armed with that, I’ve been free to pursue the thing I really do care about, knowing that when I get the gumption to put it in a book form that I want to promote and don’t get my heart crushed about because it is solid enough for me that there’s no doubt (if I reach that), I have zero excuse not to as I know the technical process, which now I do.
I did maybe 5 or 6 things. Even sold a few. But they truly didn’t matter – and that took all the pressure off.
Also free on archive. Same thing. I don’t care or even need anybody to see it except to show that yes, you can do this yourself at least to the point I did without much work.
They teach you how on the amazon thing -= and I’m sure there’s other places than amazon you can do it. It’s just what I did at the time.
Promoting though? That’s a road I did not travel as of yet.
