Popularity of Butterfly Effect, plus stories that “rewrite history as we know it” are very popular. I see them as “very BBC”. Marketable. Science-y even.

I’ll have to check it out. It seems a little _too_ BBC of a history: They have a tendency as of late to find an obscure but vaguely plausible simple initial condition that then becomes so significant that it is the entire cause of something huge later on.

So, I start off a little skeptical, even though I *do* tend to enjoy “social evolution” ideas… but this one at least from my prejudices may be a case of, “…and this is why the West is better”, pat on the back for “European superiority” or something.

But I’ll try to hold my bias in check and give it a look.
