political correctness is a term applied to “good form” by the naysayers, since the 1980s.
Example: Find me people who advocate for political correctness directly.
Now find me people against political correctness.
You’ll ALWAYS find more “anti-PC” whether in 2018 or 1990.
Because: it’s not a term people apply to themselves, only to their enemies.
They basically threw the case back to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission because the CCRC had ruled differently in OTHER baker vs customer cases.
“That’s” what’s narrow.
In short, it had just about NOTHING to do with the bakers or the couple.
White Christian Male Nationalists have always played identity politics and do it better than anyone. They’re a vacuous wasteland, sadly.
I grew up in NJ. Used car sales, Pharmaceutical owners, politicians, mobsters and real estate developers are no different.
I guess I never took him “as a celebrity” seriously. News hog? Yeah, but sort of like Al Sharpton in that way.I always equated his celebrity status as = to Dolly Parton.
Also, our obsession with celebrity is hardly new. 24 hr news has been around since the late 1980s (30 yrs). What’s different is the amount of ways people share things and its frequency. But it’s just as much parroting as always.
Was it? I was on a TV break since Apr 2013 and most friends I know are internet folks not TV folks.
I got online in 1989 and haven’t looked back since. I don’t know what other people do. I usually see them as “behind” more than anything — not that I’m all that much ahead if at all.
My news has been online forever. I saved some old screen captures from way back:From: VAX1::CDELL “VALENTINE M. SMITH” 16-JAN-1991 17:57:49.21
Subj: war apparently has startedABC reported at 1735 that Baghdad was under attack, and was firing at
unseen targets. No confirmation from the US side on the subject of war.
More as it becomes known. VMS
I was so excited I started telling everybody (college) and someone dragged a TV into a common area and put it on CNN.We waited and waited and waited until FINALLY they reported it. It was exciting. I had a “British Are Coming” moment.
as far as celebrities go? I only focus on who makes into the memes. Beyond that, I don’t really.
Pretending words don’t matter though is a bit ridiculous.
If words didn’t matter, you wouldn’t need to defend your use of them.
If I call a short person “dwarf” and that person says “we prefer little people”, do I then go off all offended? HOW DARE YOU TELL ME HOW TO TALK?Or, say, “ok then. little person”.
“political correctness” as a concept suffers from the “pornography problem”.It’s undefined and only gets defined when spotted.
Controlling? I hear stuff called “PC” that’s not controlling but any hint of “hey your word choice sucks” gets the “that’s PC” hammer.
If it’s anti 1stA laws, call it that.
Is PC a personality type? A law? What is it?
Is it a nebulous evil cloud of mind infection spread by information sources directly into the minds of an unblinking populace? Oh wait, that doesn’t exist.
You don’t like something yet you can’t define it. It’s amusing.
Blind spots in otherwise logical people are amusing. I did my part. Abductive reasoning. It’s not very strong but it’s common.
I’m here to save a guy I talk to from poor reasoning skills. But you can have the Sonic ring if that’s all you’re after. Ding.
