Part of it. But it’s not for purely egoist reasons or even mostly. But there’s an aspect of self-betterment, yes.
I challenge challengers if: a) they’re wrong b) I’m bored while completing my time on this planet and it’s not sleep c) to move the challenge to a level or two broader to find the place of agreement or at least common ground.
It depends. Ego’s around, sure but it’s not necessarily Egoism either. Attempting to find balance between inner/outer concerns is a worthy goal and I think there’s a spectrum there.
I try to speak for myself for this reason: “Know thyself” is enough work. But i can’t say, “We fool ourselves” because that’s a projection of my ego onto all of humanity and attempting to mold humanity into the shape of me.
I don’t know if a voided ego is possible. It’s always around probably.
I think I fool myself if I believe there isn’t the silhouette of my ego following me around in everything I do.
I can say that if that’s what I thought.
