One President, one Twitter account, attempts to convince a nation to abandon football. If he brought in the safety aspect of football, he might even succeed in his quest. Meanwhile, millions of kids continue in pop warner leagues, and look up to their heroes. Dedicated sports fans who don’t get themselves wrapped up in politics that come and go, will continue to be fans. One day, Trump will no longer be president. Will we say, “they used to be a game called American football, back before Puerto Rico was sold to a foreign nation in order to pay for fence repairs”? It’s possible. But I don’t think so.
