One of the things I really enjoyed was the singing.

I’m 43 now but from about 25-30 years old, I was into to the Eastern Orthodox church. I’m agnostic since; but I loved the whole foreign-ness of it and the depth of history and such.

One of the things I really enjoyed was the singing. I entered it in more of the Russian side than the Greek side, and I loved the acapella singing. The songs were generally the Psalms (Psalter) as they’re designed to be sung, not read and each nationality had its own take on it. I have a CD of the Bulgarians sung by an amazing bass singer which rattled my subwoofers and made your chest vibrate, he could get so low. Very manly sound vs the Gregorian chants of the west, which always seemed a little flighty, although they’re nice too.
