Old timers. If anything, PC is improving things. Gives constant new material. Younger comedians are doing fine.
Bill Maher had a show for years, “Politically Incorrect” – I dunno if he still does. Never liked his style.
But shocking folks has always been and still is a part of comedy.
What’s different now is some folks unironically believe in the shock statements. “I’m gonna go do something about this problem once and for all” isn’t something that used to happen. Now it does.
Look at Alex Jones. In any other era, he’d simply be a comedian.
Say it anyway. Comedians always got crap from media, etc. Lenny Bruce, etc.
It’s the comedians who got afraid.’
If a comedian makes a racist joke it’s called racist because it is. If a comedian makes a sexist joke it’s called sexist because it is.
What’s funny changes. I’ll give an example:
I was in the checkout line at a Dollar store two days ago. Cashier was an older guy, probably 80 yrs old or so.
He says to me, “I put my wife on the rice diet. She was doing great too.”
Pauses. Checks out a few more items.
“But I had to take her off it. She wouldn’t stop folding laundry.”
Person I was with didn’t know it was a joke, wondered why he was telling us about his wife.
