ok. Didn’t seem like it from what I saw. Seemed like an old fashioned middle-of-the-road Republican (rare these days) but figured there had to be something that got her in the news a lot.
There’s a few Democrats like that who are really Republicans. Used to be Republicans that were more like Democrats but there’s fewer than there were.
For a long time, there was hardly much difference at all between most Democrats and most Republicans. The whole 1990s there was almost no difference, except for the weird extremists who were always trying to radicalize the Republican party — who ended up succeeding.
Basically, the old-school Republicans and old school Democrats were like this:
But the radical right factions spent the last 40+ years gaining more and more power. The consolidation of various right wing groups that got Ronald Reagan elected in 1980 grew and grew, at first just a few oddballs like Newt Gingrich who started amassing power in the background, amplified by some late 1980s “DOWNFALL OF CIVILIZATION” books that grew popular among certain right-wing circles, then the shock talk radio from Rush Limbaugh and such in the early 1990s (who had a huge huge audience for over a decade) and well, more and more power.
Same names over and over again. Almost everybody involved in trying to impeach President Bill Clinton in the 1990s are STILL in those positions in 2021, a small old boys club hanging on for dear life and gaining more and more control by whatever means.
Then since the early 00s, various radical nationalist groups started meeting together. Southern Baptists were inexplicably travelling to Greece and Eastern Europe for meetings, which turned out to be with nationalists in their countries and they were trying to coordinate. (around 09/10-ish).
Around that time the internet right wing stuff started moving from trolls to becoming political activists for nationalism.
So, I don’t underestimate but I worry more about what’s done in private than in public.
