Oh this is cool. I love when data is duplicated in different forms, different places, different ways.
Having Flickr hosting millions of images (as well as having them on internet archive) means backup – redundancy – a defense against closure.
One of the marvels of the internet was – and is – its ability for people to make many copies of the same thing. This prevents the problem of single-source information.
The drawback is the “telephone game” : people changing the information as it’s stored.
Yet, it’s become a culture of its own – the way people modify images and videos to convey other information.
So it’s never dull
