[one of the mathy-traits I never liked was the shorthand of letting variables be cancelled out. As I started programming at 11, two years before Pre-Algebra, I was already two years into keeping track of all of my variables. But then when Pre-Algebra came along and I had to get rid of them, it was annoying. I’d keep their existence on the side of the page and one teacher got mad at me for it. “They’re cancelled out – you don’t need them anymore”. But I disagreed.
