Oh, I’m not saying what’s good or bad ways to parent, not at all; I just know for myself, it was sometimes intrusive when it would happen. My favorite times making money was when it was inventive and creative and I had freedom to explore and try unexplored territories.

It’s not a bad thing for someone else. I certainly had enough people trying to talk me into it. But I knew myself then and now and it was a big no.
Oh I should list some of the opportunities I had that I chose not to follow consciously and willfully. I’m grateful for each of those “no” choices – and have no regrets.
This one: 1994: temp job at a waste management plant, writing some database thing I was learning as I went along; [“stick me in front a computer and I’ll figure it out” seemed to work well for me]
I made friends with a guy whose father sent him over to America from India in order to get ideas about American businesses.
After a few months, he told me of his father’s wealth in India and his family. His father own/ran a large shoe manufacturing company and he wanted the next product.
So it was going to be computer manufacturing; and he wanted me to come with him for a 5 year contract. I talked with his father a bunch of times on the phone; it was all legit.
So I’d have been there from 1995-2000 had I gone.
But I knew I’d end up staying in India if I’d done it, and while I know I’d have loved it, I felt it was more important to stay here and to their regret, I turned it down and he went back to India with no one with him to reboot his father’s business.
Now what opportunity came up in 1995 that we didn’t know about in 1994?
Windows 95
The Internet on every PC.
Consumer computing explosive growth. period.
I’d have been rich as I was going to be a business partner with a percentage, all legal.
And occasionally I’d ask myself if I regretted, and it’s always been a “no regret” because I gained opportunities here that wouldn’t have been available there.
There I’d have had opportunities that I couldn’t imagine; yet, I am glad for my choice – and it left me with a true story to tell.
  •   Anyway, nothing I said is me trying to dissuade you from pursuing your goals and paths for you or yours; nothing anybody says need have any bearing on what you do, what you believe, the choices you make; for me this is just internet chatter; I’m not attempting to change anybody’s life views; I just enjoy the back and forth, learning new things, etc.
