Oh absolutely. I watched conservatives absolutely BAFFLED by post-modern style of writing / etc years ago -. They used to be very straight-laced – still are sometimes.
But then about a dozen years ago, I noticed that some of them became semi-FLUENT in PoMo style discourse but instead trying to work it in their favor.
But you see, this is a good thing because with the old standard now gone, anything that comes is necessarily a reconstruction – and already that reconstruction includes elements that would never have been considered not that many years ago.
Look at the acceptance of gays in the conservative ranks. Mixed religious and ethnicities. Embracing non-white ranks more and more – even appealing to black and latino – not just cuban – communities. Part of this is due to desperation at falling numbers – but it’s also a sign of change. Many left-wing values are permanent parts of conservatism now and they don’t even see it. Just look at the anarchist tendencies of parts of the right wing. Take away their right wing moral “social concerns” and it becomes about as left-wing as any socialist group one might find.
