Nowadays, affirmative action works the way it was originally supposed to, but it took a lot of mistakes to get there.

When quotas were “the thing” in the late 1970s/early 1980s, my mother worked in a county govt office.

The instructions came down “from the top”: WE NEED MORE BLACK PEOPLE.

So they tried. They also FAILED. They lifted the entrance requirements to ridiculously simple degrees, and black people who WORKED HARD for their jobs, greatly resented IDIOTS being hired by their skin color.

So there’s precedence for a negative view of affirmative action, but that was 30+ years ago. Nowadays, affirmative action works the way it was originally supposed to, but it took a lot of mistakes to get there.
