Thing about it is it’s a local solution to a local problem. Philly has a real problem with “white gays only” clubs that they’re combating. Maybe other cities will also adopt it to serve their needs.
Yet, people are getting enraged – many of whom are so far removed from the issue that they couldn’t begin to comprehend it. I can’t even say that I can fully comprehend it for a dozen reasons. But I see a local solution to a local problem that now people in the Ukraine are complaining about as if it affects them in some way shape or form.
I’ve heard about it and I believe it’s true. Way back in 1990, when the pink triangle and “Queer” was the thing I had friends in the GLBT club. Good music, good parties, genuinely nice folks. Once I went to a talk they gave on “hidden racism in the gay community” and it got a lot of people steaming mad because it “makes them all look bad” to admit they’ve got embarrassing internal problems like any other community does.
I got the feeling it’s one of those “dirty little secrets” that keeps getting buried over and over again in the gay community.
