when I said “us and them” followed by “more like ‘us'” I was changing the definition of “us” and wished to imply a “new kind of us” distinct from the “homogenous ‘us’ that’s part of the “us vs them”; a pluralistic ‘us’. I don’t know if any quick vocabulary shift that could have conveyed it nor what proper tone of voice could do so, so I will leave this comment.
