No. It’s because of Sunshine Laws [which are closing up lately]. Transparency. There’s easy access to statistics and data from civil records, therefore more news of the nutty things people do everything to report. Whereas in New Jersey, there’s no such thing as that. Crimes happen but people’s reputations are protected as much as possible. So news stories will be vague. Most things DON’T make it into the newspapers. If people don’t know, then nothing’s happening and everything must be safe. In short, If records aren’t FORCED to be transparent, they’re hidden.
