Nik Karn A long time ago, I was lucky enough to go to a set of Saturday retreats to learn about therapeutic touch.
it was with the church I grew up in – i think maybe they paid for me to go – i was a teenager or in my early 20s.
I don’t remember how many classes there were : I know I went there every Saturday for a few months to a very large retreat center which may been an old college or church – I just remember lots of stone but warm wood floors.
20-30 people. we went over some territory already familiar to me like guided meditation and such. But the therapeutic touch was new to me.
what was great is you didn’t even have to touch the person or the person didn’t have to touch you.
I didn’t mind either way but it worked just as well.
and while i didn’t believe in fields per se, I also knew that it was loosely based on Chinese medicine which has been around a long time and is doing something.
and it worked on me.
i’m not sure what I was training for. it was run by nurses. it had a vaguely Christian context but more of the generic spiritual variety.
i’m guessing around 1992?
