Newton vs Goethe on colors. Newton used a sun to test a theory. Goethe observed what he saw and described. Goethe modified Newton’s experiment a little by using a white light instead of the sun and noticed something different than Newton did, what Goethe called “Boundary Colors”.
At the top was a yellow growing darker to orange.
At the bottom was a blue growing darker to purple.
In the middle was the white light.
From this he determined that there are only two true colors: yellow and blue which exist at the boundaries between light and dark.
