Nevada’s industry has gone through fits and spurts with proper application of rights though.
I remember the Mustang Range debacle; I remember seeing it highlighted as a model for successful legalized prostitution in the United States. Joseph Conforte would show up on TV magazine shows, interviews in newspapers and magazines.
Shut down for fraud in 1999 – and there were stories of human rights violations even at the time and later – but it resulted in an improvement in protections.

Nevada also had a problem with underage prostitution for a while. I think they added new restrictions about 10-15 years ago though.
My thing about it all is: So long as the rights are properly managed – and yes, by government not “free market”, because “the market” will not manage human rights properly – it’s a commercial activity like any other.

Properly managed fully consensual fully legal BDSM is fine.
I’m not even shaming people who love 50 Shades of Gray; the same way a rollercoaster ride is a safe way to explore death, these kinds of psychological stories are safe ways to explore otherwise dangerous relationships with the ability to close the book at any time.

I hadn’t read it but I know a number of women who loved it. They also have Marilyn Manson and similar interests of related genres; the era of the sexy vampires and werewolves post Anne-Rice; a lot of it reminds me of what I remember from my era which was girls being fascinated by serial killers, writing them in prison, etc.
