Neither Alfie nor today’s manifestation of the Republican party would be what it is without Newt Gingrich’s arrangements in the 1980s and 90s amplified to common people by Rush Limbaugh in the early 1990s. And what we see today in the changed Republican party is very much thanks to him. As they used to say: It’s the kind of thing you like… if you like that kind of thing.

I see it as: Newt’s craftings in the 1980s / early 90s, amplified to the common man by Rush Limbaugh. A generation grew up with it, and here we are.

I refused to see myself as a “political being” until 2014.. aged what… i’m 49 now so 42.
Even then, I didn’t much like it. I show up way way over in the left hand side and down around the “let’s get along and be basically decent while letting everybody be themselves” category.

I can’t see myself as a chimpanzee in a chimpanzee clan warring against other chimpanzee foes or something. I know our genetics are similar to chimpanzees but I also know we can do better because we have done better and strive to.
