Nearly all of the bills are written to be intentionally vague in order to inject fear into the students and teachers.
It works.
A teacher is “in loco parentis” – that is, in the place of the parent, literally.
So they become an alternative parent and a few of the parental responsibilities fall onto them.
The amount of those responsibilities comes and goes. Some of it is state by state. Texas for example, I think still allows teachers to bare butt spank children.
Florida does not, and a vice principal who used to teach in Texas got in trouble for doing that just last year. Different state, different in loco parentis expectations.
Now, there is NOTHING magical about parenting.
There is no course you take. You have sex, get pregnant, give birth. Now you have a responsibility.
There’s all KINDS of parentings out there. Sometimes they’re not good parents.
But we’re all citizens in a society. So, what’s a society to do if kids are being raised in an environment that’s dangerous?
Well, that gets tricky. There’s all different levels of problems.
