My attempt to create video-via-oscilloscope like they did in some old movies about “the future”. Used Processing (programming language) with two plugins – one called ‘video’ (old version of gstreamer) and OpenCV (Open Computer Vision) plugins. It’s close enough to what I wanted to see actualized. What next with it? Don’t know but I knew it was possible, just had to figure out “how”. [might see if I can combine the “only show video when there’s a change” and this outlining/tracing algorithm (called “Canny” in OpenCV). Might be an interesting effect. Even if I don’t do it, I’m happy with what I can eek out of this ancient built-in webcam (which really takes horrible video but input-is-input and it’s what you do with what you have that makes something worthy) If I could figure out how to close the lines in real-time (have it “guess” and then use a flood-fill to fill in colors, it’d make a really interesting real-time coloring book! I don’t have the skills yet to pull that off but I’m pleased with what I have so far here. Might see if I can feed existing videos through it like I’ve done with ASCII before. [for ascii movies]
