Mostly educated college students in a fight for what they know. They’re not China. Contract expired that they never signed.
America is a contract breaker. We break all of our contracts eventually. But China thinks in 99 year terms regularly. Long prior to communism or their current unique capitalist China state – way back in other political systems.
Unbroken history of 2500 years, they take a MUCH longer view than we do.
“The island was ceded by Qing dynasty in the aftermath of the war in 1842 and established as a Crown colony in 1843. The colony expanded to the Kowloon Peninsula in 1860 after the Second Opium War and was further extended when Britain obtained a 99-year lease of the New Territories in 1898.”
I’m a diplomacy guy. All contracts can be renegotiated and should be, with not only informed consent but with a voice for all stakeholders, which involves anybody who is affected by said contract.
So, I’m for what I consider reasonable law.
I do not consider China’s application of contract enforcement by violence acceptable. I do not consider the USA’s application of contract enforcement by violence acceptable.
“You broke the law”. Ok, is the consequence balanced with the broken contract? No? Then find another way.
Ok. You are a migrant traveling from Venezuela to the USA.
You reach the border. Now Negotiate.
Diplomacy. Sit at round table and talk things out.
China is the USA. USA is China. Understand how we both interpret Rule of Law in a way that is inappropriate for human rights.
