“critical race theory” as a conceptual object is traceable.
there’s a brief mention of it in the 1980s if I remember right when it was constructed.
sparse mentioning of it through the next 30 years – almost none.
then one right wing activist comes along looking for SOMETHING That can be used to replace the tired complaints of marxism socialism
communism that can be used as political canon fodder against black lives matter in July 2020.
he constructed critical race theory as a boutique drug – a designed answer to a vague “problem” that is ill defined – that is marketable
—
The creator of “critical race theory, july 2020” pitched it to Tucker Carlson and then directly appealed to President Trump as a vehicle to change laws against black lives matter.
Fox News has been selling it as if it is a concept heavily for the last three months in order to get public support to be against “it”.
but there is no “it”.
it’s a constructed enemy out of air.
—
here’s the problem.
it’s like “who is God?” and people come up with all these great answers.
what is critical race theory?
you’re giving all these answers.
but there is no object there.
—
I didn’t want to breathe life into it as a concept before I read this article because I knew it was constructed out of nothing. I did my research already and I have other posts talking about that.
but I didn’t know it was the construction of one single conservative activist in july 2020.
that surprised me.

i’ll talk about the issues but this over arching label is an unnecessary construction like saying a demigod is responsible for physics.

it’s probably a very handy bugaboo
and I expect I’ll be hearing about this fiction called “critical race theory” for years to come
not by anybody who is “using it” but only by people who hold it up as their enemy
