Men of the Gen Z and the boys of Alpha gens are very lucky in that there is an option available in their generations of using makeup more. Being aged way up in Gen X land, makeup was for heavy metal bands and David Bowie – a valid option for a showman but not for everyday. I don’t think it was as much of an option for Millennial except for fingernail polish and maybe lipstick. I haven’t had an interest in it for myself BUT : the reason I believe they’re lucky at having it as more of an option is they have the standing ability to decide to change their facial appearance more quickly than older generations. Makeup allows for a “change of look” that doesn’t have to be structural, but could be. It’s fascinating watching options emerge for each generation that prior generations wouldn’t have the nerve for.
