Mathematics is a descriptive language that is powerful enough to create idealizations of machines that can work in reality.
It takes advantage of our visual systems tendency to analogize and simplify lines.
it uses our two-part counting system; 1 2 3 sometimes 4 is our basic mental counting. The rest utilize the same system we use for words/grammar/etc.
Just as there are things that are unique to written language, things that are unique to spoken language, things unique to musical language, there are also things that are unique to mathematical language.
But it’s still a language.
It’s not describing REALITY – it’s describing an idealized FORM of reality with some great predictive power.
But the Universe is not mathematics. It’s humans using the mathematical language to describe ahd model the Universe and create machines out of it.
We have it upside down.
But I blame Plato. Love Plato, but he messed up 2500 years of thinking sometimes. Abstraction is _so ingrained_ in our cultures that it’s hard to part from it for even a moment.
