Marketing is definitely key. A few years ago I needed to understand a doable SKELETON procedure for book publishing. So I decided that I would detach myself from caring about the MARKETING and SALES aspect and from the “putting my heart into it” and would go through the MECHANICS. So, I made several books of a sort and put them up for sale on Amazon kindle. This way I understood the mechanical “how” without being attached to the outcome. Now if I write a book that I am emotionally attached to and wish to market it with all of my being, I won’t have to worry about how to make it available for others.

Yes, that will be ideal. Once upon a time, I knew the rules of online marketing. It was Web 2.0 days, with the semantic web. I’d put tiny little mentions in far off corners of the internet with proper keywords and I could easily rise to the top of Google.
I can’t complain. I made good money at it from 2007-2014 – well, from 2009-2013. But they got smart and changed a few rules and I didn’t know how to follow along.
I just did it for myself – SEO they called it -Search Engine Optimization.
Old fashioned now. How it works in 2021-2025? I don’t know at the moment. I have ideas but as I’m not doing it actively, I’m working on other stuff isntead.
