Looks like Facebook is trying to compete with snapchat, musical.ly and Youtube Kids for the eyes of the under-12 online. They’ve been missing out on top notch marketing potential for a long time by missing this boat, so it’s about time they dove in. Plus once they get the kids, they’ll be able to keep many of them when they cross the age barrier. Right now, Facebook tends to be viewed as “AOL” : mostly for middle aged adults and grandparents, although there’s a significant Millennial showing over the past three-four years, especially in the absurdiam zones. Smart business move. Don’t mess it up like Youtube did with Youtube Kids please.

That said, they can’t compete with gaming and the allure of Youtube culture.celebrities.

Also, it can’t compete with Discord, Reddit, tumblr and 4chan at all because the real names thing will always keep them out of that market.
