light/electric isn’t running at its best in nervous systems conditions though. speed of light is super fast in a pure vacuum but everywhere else light can slow to a crawl. and electrons are bulky physical things. they themselves move rather slowly. they can pass photons around like basketballs pretty quickly in the best environment such as under the shielding of a strongly insulated copper wire. but our axons are poorly mielated – particularly if our diets don’t have the kinds of oils that rebuild them when they break down – and in some cases like myself, being preterm a lot of mine started off unshielded that should have been. so all of that affects speed too
