Last I checked, it’s sort of separate. Like, there’s a low-lag Numerosity but there’s ALSO mathematics. Then there’s basic shape parts recognition (corners vs diagonals, etc). Then there’s also relative distance (graspability of seen objects). Oh and language. So, it all ties nicely and awkwardly together. Discrimination of numerosity shouldn’t be too surprising though. Bacteria have a “self vs other” as well as decision-making based on numbers (might be a “more vs less” thing, I dunno but it’s there). All quite fascinating stuff tbh.
