Labels are annoying, Alex. I hate them myself. But sometimes they’re _useful_ when used wisely.

Labels are annoying, Alex. I hate them myself. But sometimes they’re _useful_ when used wisely.

Personal example: I refer to myself as “agnostic”. Why? People like labels. It makes it easier for them to get a stereotypical understanding of ‘my beliefs’ which I can then clarify upon further questioning if necessary.

I’d *prefer* to just “come as I am” – and often I do, explaining my personal history as-I-understand-it and letting them figure it out.

But sometimes, it’s useful to use a label as shorthand. If done properly, I don’t have a problem with it. It’s only a problem when it’s given ontological status.
