I’ve read in the past that many of the families were disadvantaged. Misleading the parents, using power and intelligence and salesmanship to convince parents that everything is above board and on the up and up is not difficult for those who do such a thing routinely. If there wasn’t such MASSIVELY extreme power/influence/practice difference (BILLIONAIRE), I’d say that it’s equally the parents but a corrupt enterprise which his was, starts off as powerful liars, operates as powerful liars and if the parents are given the wrong information that they’d need to make an informed decision, it’s far from an equal comparison
