I’ve been looking at these things on and off since I was a teenager; and I get all caught up in it. Stuff’s inspirational, I understand the language, I get all “woo wow woah” – and for what it is it’s right. And yet… … BECAUSE it can be so engaging ( residing in the saddle point between order and disorder ) – – how it allows for both ordered and disordered systems to operate distinctly and yet have a zone of connection… it covers both information AND entropy… I supposed the MAIN FLAW that could be seen with it is that it requires TIME. You can’t have a dynamical system without time; so all of the systems built that require time to be irrelevant wouldn’t have room for this kind of thing in them

Oh you’re actually studying it for reals though; I’m but an enthusiast; what’s amazing about the whole avalanche thing is it just takes a little ‘dip’ where convex becomes concave and back again, and it all comes a-tumbling down; then you see this and it’s like seeing perfect avalanches functioning without waste, all neatly organized while still being a chaotic system
